United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) develops new technologies that enable the most innovative products in the world. Our researchers serve as expert technical consultants to United Technologies Corporation (UTC) businesses, lead government-sponsored research programs, and pursue their own creative ideas. UTRC is a dynamic community composed of more than 450 employees with over 96% of the technical staff holding graduate degrees. Applied research is performed across diverse disciplines including thermal and fluid sciences, physical sciences, and engineering systems.
Do you have a passion for innovation coupled with technical depth in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and thermal management systems? If so, the Thermal Management Group needs your skills. Our Senior Research Engineer position demands strong fundamentals, coupled with skills in physics-based modeling, programming, and an intuition for the appropriate level of modeling fidelity for a given problem. The Senior Research Engineer position may contribute in the following areas:
- Multiphysics computational modeling
- Thermal / energy management systems modeling and analysis
- Aircraft and building system design
- Experimental validation of new thermal management components
- Design for advanced/additive manufacturing
- Topological modeling/graph reasoning
- Geometric modeling/spatial reasoning
- Computational or experimental experience in thermodynamics and heat transfer
- Graduate or within one year of graduation with a thesis-track engineering degree (M.S. or Ph.D.)
- Excellent communication skills
- Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident (green card holder)
- MS Candidates should have at least 4 years of relevant post degree work experience.
- PhD Candidates with up to 3 years of relevant post degree work experience.
Next-generation products demand that we cross traditional boundaries. We deeply value multidisciplinary skills in the following areas: controls systems, design optimization methods, multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO), machine learning (algebraic, topological, deep learning, uncertainty quantification), systems engineering, dynamic systems, or materials science.
Education: Thesis-track engineering degree in any of the following engineering disciplines: Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical or Nuclear Engineering (M.S. or Ph.D.)
