Senior Research Engineer, Cyber Physical Systems

UTRC provides technical thought leadership in security and trustworthy solutions to the full range of UTC products and programs. Our programs involve both practical technology development as well as innovative scientific research to advance the state-of-the-art methodologies and practices.

The Systems Department of the UTRC has an open position in the area of cyber security for cyber physical systems, at the level of Staff Engineer. Candidates meeting a substantial subset of the criteria listed below are encouraged to apply.

Cyber-Physical Systems or "smart" systems are co-engineered interacting networks of physical and computational components. Other terminologies related to this emerging technology trend include: Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet, Smart Cities, Smart Grid, etc. Those are large systems that connect and integrate industrial control systems, machines, sensors and actuators with enterprise systems, business processes, analytics and people. The Software Systems group at UTRC is developing novel research and technology to address this large-scale and complex system of systems, and provide integrated and adaptive solutions.

Qualifications

The candidate should have a strong background in cyber security for SCADA and industrial control systems, including threat modeling and risk analysis, countermeasures and mitigation techniques, intrusion detection systems, and secure architecture and system design.
Successful candidates will be expected to
Have an in-depth knowledge of threat modeling in SCADA and industrial control systems

  • Have a deep understanding of building management systems and power grid, including HVAC, DER, and industry standards and protocols
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to accomplish team goals and work with other to help develop and research technology solutions to improve the security, safety and resiliency of cyber physical systems.
  • Be a strong team player in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment
  • Have both strong written and oral communication skills and articulate effectively across the organization.
Education M.S. degree with 2-5 years of research and development experience
Preferred: Ph.D., with up to 2 years of research and development experience
