Lead Research Technician, Measurement Science

The Measurement Science Group at the United Technologies Research Center has an open position for a research technician to work in our Materials Characterization laboratories. The position will entail working with a dynamic interdisciplinary team that develops solutions for product and development challenges. The candidate will be part of a team responsible for developing and identifying test protocols to evaluate the mechanical performance of advanced materials, components, and structures. The work involves the assistance in the development of unique tests. The team is integral to many of the innovation research projects at United Technologies Research Center. The team also works with the various business units of UTC to resolve technical issues.

Specific required job responsibilities include:

  • Precision specimen sectioning
  • Sample mounting and polishing techniques
  • Chemical handling and etching
  • Optical microscopy methods
Qualifications

The preferred candidate will be capable of excelling as an individual contributor as well as in a team environment. Experience in a fast-paced hands-on laboratory environment with limited direct oversight is required. Additional experience with image and data documentation for incorporation into customer reports is desirable.

Additional Comments: Strong communication and teamwork skills are required. US citizenship or green card is required.

Education AA/AS degree, technical/business school certificate or Diploma, skilled trades apprenticeship or other post high school training (two years in duration) with a minimum of 6 years of experience.
