Our newly-formed UTC Additive Manufacturing Center of Expertise centrally hosted at UTC’s Research Center, encompasses a critical and innovative mass of Additive Manufacturing processes and industrialization expertise. We also possess the necessary capabilities to develop strategic collaborations to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of the critical technologies we employ.

Our aim in the creation of the new COE is to accelerate the development and deployment of additive manufactured products and systems for UTC’s business units (UTC Aerospace Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Otis, and UTC Climate, Controls, & Security).

As the Associate Director, Technology Development for the AMCOE at United Technologies Corporation you will be responsible for a broad range of leadership activities important to the effective and efficient operation of the AMCoE.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Technical Leadership: You will provide technical leadership in the core technology areas of AM, including modeling and simulation for additive processes, process sensing and control, materials informatics and analytics, material characterization, and design tool chain.
  • Capability Development: You’ll develop and implement a strategic vision for the capabilities under his/her responsibility including staff, facilities, and external partnerships. Engage effectively with the UTC Business Units to develop an understanding of current directions and to participate in the formulation of future activities.
  • Staff Development: Lead by example. We are seeking an individual that can help to cultivate an environment of continuous improvement. You will hire, mentor, and motivate world class technical talent; employee development/career planning.
  • Operations: You’ll take responsibility for planning and executing budgets and meeting financial targets.


Qualifications:

You should be a well-recognized technical expert in the multidisciplinary field of additive manufacturing.

Additional qualifications include:

  • You should have strong knowledge in additive manufacturing, additive materials processing, preferably within the aerospace domain.
  • You have demonstrated experience in building capability through hiring and development of staff, externalization, and infrastructure improvements
  • You have the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading worldwide institutions to fulfill organizational objectives
  • You should have the ability to provide timely, accurate, and detailed reports and presentations
  • Superior communication skills are a necessity

US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident status required.


Education:

Ph.D. Degree in Materials or Manufacturing Engineering (or a related field) with at least 7 years’ experience in an applied research environment or Master’s Degree in Materials or Manufacturing Engineering (or a related field) with at least 13 years’ experience in an applied research environment. Previous experience in a supervisory role is highly preferred.

Education/certifications:

Ph.D. Degree in Materials or Manufacturing Engineering (or a related field) with at least 7 years’ experience in an applied research environment or Master’s Degree in Materials or Manufacturing Engineering (or a related field) with at least 13 years’ experience in an applied research environment. Previous experience in a supervisory role is highly preferred.
